GENERAL QUESTIONS ON TINCTURES – HOW TO TAKE THEM AND HOW TO IMPROVE THE TASTE
WHAT IS A TINCTURE? A tincture is typically an extract of plant or animal material dissolved in ethanol. Solvent concentrations of 25–60% are common but may run as high as 90%. In chemistry, a tincture is a solution that has ethanol as its solvent. Our tinctures are at the 25-60% range.
WARNING – For those that are alcohol sensitive or abstain, many of our tinctures are alcohol based.
WHY A TINCTURE? Tinctures are a very effective way of administering active components. By utilising the high absorption ability of the mouth this allows quicker assimilation of active components and hence faster action on the body.
WHAT ABOUT THE TASTE? Herbal tinctures can be quite bitter, the more potent the herb the more bitter the herbal tincture will be.
There is an old traditional way of taking bad tasting medicines that I have used successfully for years .. Blocking your nose by squeezing it with your fingers, prevents your taste mechanism from working. So, if you don’t like the taste of a tincture this is what I do …
- block your nose for a couple of seconds before taking the tincture.
- make up tincture dose with a small amount of water.
- Drink quickly .. whilst keeping your nose blocked.
- Then follow with either water or fruit juice to disguise taste.
- unblock your nose after finishing the follow-up drink.
This is an old-fashioned wife’s tale technique that I use many times. Whenever I have to take anything that I don’t like the taste of, I block my nose with my fingers, swallow the medicine quickly, then I follow it with something that tastes nice … then I unblock my nose. This is a sure-fire way of being able to take any bad tasting medicine.
How Quickly Will The Tinctures Work?
Well, how long is a piece of string? At Get A Grip we endeavour to clean up the body and address nutritional deficiencies allowing the body to heal completely. By following a nutritional, supplement, exercise, and tincture regimen, depending on how toxic the body was initially, results can be obvious at around the 4–8-week mark.
At Get A Grip we are not proposing a quick fix remedy but a total reversal of symptoms.
Storage Of Tinctures
Tinctures are best stored in a dark, cool (under 30 degree), safe place. Tinctures are stable due to alcohol content and have a long shelf life. I would also never store any medicine near WiFi or a router.
