A traditional welcoming ceremony was accorded today by the People’s Coalition Government to the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Administrator Ms. Samantha Power.
On behalf of the Government and the people of Fiji, the Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Lenora Qereqeretabua welcomed Ms. Power’s to Fiji.
The ceremony was also attended by the Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Hon. Siromi Turaga, Minister for Rural and Maritime Development, Disaster Management, Hon. Sakiasi Ditoka and members of the diplomatic corps.
In her remarks, Ms. Power’s thanked Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Honourable Sitiveni Rabuka and the people of Fiji for the kind hospitality accorded to her upon arrival on our shores.
Ms. Power’s said she is pleased to be here in Fiji to officially open the USAID Mission which reflects the United States’ strong commitment to our friendship and longstanding cooperation between the two nations.
The opening of the new Mission demonstrates the United States’ commitment to partnering with our Pacific Island neighbors and fulfilling the commitment made by President Biden last year at the historic Summit with Pacific Islands Leaders.
