Welcome to the Permanent Mission of Fiji to the United Nations, New York

Fiji’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York was established on 13 October 1970, three days after obtaining independence from the United Kingdom. Since then, Fiji’s participation in the United Nations has been notable in particular for its active role in UN peacekeeping operations which began in 1978.

As a small island developing state, Fiji is firmly committed to effective global cooperation, including through the United Nations (UN). The world we live in is complex and inter-connected where many of the major challenges we face is beyond our ability let alone as a small island nation to resolve. We value multilateralism and the Agenda 2030 to address the global challenges we are confronted with such as climate change, peace and security, sea level rise and  oceans to name a few. Fiji is strongly committed to play its part in working together in New York with our diverse family of nations to build trust and forge cooperations to build a better world ahead. Read More….
