The State of Israel reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening support for the Fijian Government’s efforts to advance socio-economic development and regional prosperity.
This was evident at a meeting convened between Permanent Secretary (PS) for Office of the Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs, Yogesh Karan, and the Non-resident Ambassador of the State of Israel to the Pacific Countries, Roi Rosenblit, yesterday (12/9/22).
PS Karan thanked Israel for its cooperation with Fiji and the region in important areas of development, including defence and security, global peacekeeping, climate change, agriculture, health, education, and disaster rehabilitation.
The Israel Government’s support through the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) for the Fijian peacekeepers and peacekeeping missions, was also acknowledged.
The meeting highlighted increased engagement opportunities in climate resilience, agricultural development, tourism, technology, finance, and green energy, amongst others.
On regional cooperation, PS Karan said Fiji looks to Israel to support the “2050 Strategy for the Blue Pacific Continent” which is now the foundation document for the Pacific’s regional development.
Ambassador Rosenblit congratulated Fiji on a victorious win in the Sevens Rugby World Cup Championship 2022.
He commended Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama for his decisive leadership in taking Fiji forward and reuniting the Pacific region, amidst the unprecedented global challenges.
He said it’s great to see Fiji thrive through progressive economic recovery, a revival of the tourism industry, and unfolding opportunities for trade and investment.
Ambassador Rosenblit said Israel attaches great importance to Fiji and that Israel’s support would continue to elevate mutual priorities.
He is grateful for the important discussions pursued this week, which in turn shape the new areas of support Israel would provide to Fiji.
During his visit, Ambassador Rosenblit met with the officials from Government ministries, educational institutions, and the private sector in Fiji.
Fiji and Israel established diplomatic relations in 1970 and have since continued in the enhancement of common development goals.
