Fiji Passport/Travel Document

The Passport Division is responsible for the determination and issuance of Fiji passports to Fiji Citizens under the ambits of the Fiji Passport Act 2002. Fiji Passports are issued to those who would have acquired Fiji citizenship through birth, registration, and naturalization.

E – Passport Requirements

  1. Our online e-passport application system is controlled by Immigration Fiji. If there are system disruptions in Fiji, it is beyond our control in Wellington and can only be rectified and corrected from Fiji. Please be rest assured that it is our objective to provide the best service always with minimal disruptions.
  2. Given the above and to prevent or limit disappointment, we suggest that our diaspora clients consider booking flexible flights as an option when travelling from outside Wellington for consular appointments.
  3. Applicants are requested to provide all the necessary documents on their appointment date as an incomplete application could cause delay in the processing of the application. Please read checklist below.
  4. We will not be held responsible for any delays by courier regarding the shipment of your passport/document from Fiji or within NZ.
  5. Please take note of your courier tracking number and contact respective couriers to track and trace items.

Passport Renewal

Definition: when an existing passport is due to expire or has expired.

Documentation:

  1. Passport photos (x2)
  2. Passport (original)
  3. Copy of latest NZ Visa
  4. Birth certificate (certified copy). If there are any amendments done on the certificate, must provide current Birth Certificate and previous Birth Certificate. We require Full extract copy of Birth certificate, A4 size with registration number on it.
  5. Another type of Photo ID such as Driver’s licence, 18+card etc (certified copy)
  6. Marriage certificate (women only) – certified copy. We require full extract marriage certificate, A4 size with registration number on it. Handwritten marriage certificate will not be accepted
  7. Parents Birth certificate (required for children under 12 years of age)
  8. Children under 2 years of age will need to provide a recent passport photo (x1)
  9. Minor – Must provide Fiji Citizenship Certificate, parent’s Birth Certificate, parents passport & Marriage certificate (certified copy)
  10. NZ Citizenship certificate (certified copy)
  11. Applicants who have not travelled to Fiji since 10th April 2009 will need to provide a Confirmation letter of their current immigration status from NZ immigration. (original)
  12. Prepaid courier bag with tracking sticker for the return of the new Fiji passport

Processing time:

The average processing time is 6 – 8 weeks. Enrolments made through mobile kits (away from the Fiji High Commission, Wellington) may take longer. Delays in processing may occur when the applications submitted are incomplete or require further clarification. Please note we will not be held responsible for any delays by the Department of Immigration in Fiji or any issues with postal and courier services.

Important Reminder:

It is imperative that 2 copies of all documentation including the application form are submitted together with a copy of your checklist.

Replacement of a lost/stolen passport

Definition – the event an existing passport has been lost or stolen. A police event report and a statutory declaration signed and stamped by a Justice of Peace (JP) is to accompany the application.

Documentation:

  1. Passport photos (x2)
  2. Copy of the lost passport (if applicable)
  3. Copy of latest NZ Visa
  4. Police report Statutory Declaration Form – write a brief detail on how the passport was lost and have it signed and witnessed by a JP. Please include your signature in the form (Download Statutory Declaration form from our website)
  5. Birth certificate. If there are any amendments done on the certificate, must provide current Birth Certificate and previous Birth Certificate. We require Full extract copy of Birth certificate, A4 size with registration number on it.
  6. Another type of Photo ID such as Driver’s licence, 18+card etc
  7. Marriage certificate (women only). We require full extract marriage certificate, A4 size with registration number on it. Handwritten marriage certificate is not acceptable.
  8. Proof of Divorce (women only)
  9. Widow- provide Husband’s death certificate (women only)
  10. Change of name (registered in Fiji)-must provide deed poll, previous Birth Certificate and new Birth Certificate
  11. Parents Birth certificate (required for children under 12 years of age)
  12. Children under 2 years of age will need to provide a recent passport photo (x1)
  13. NZ Citizenship certificate
  14. Applicants who have not travelled to Fiji since 10th April, 2009 will need to provide a Confirmation letter of their current immigration status from NZ immigration.
  15. Prepaid courier bag with tracking sticker – for the return of the new Fiji passport if residing outside Wellington

Facilitation Letter or Certificate of Identity (COI) /One way travel document

In the event of urgent travel and a Fiji national does not hold a current passport, a travel document may be issued by either the Fiji High Commission or the Fiji Immigration Department provided all requirements are met.

Please refer to the applicable checklist to ensure that you have completed the form correctly and supplied the required documentation.

Option 1 – Facilitation Letter

A request may submitted via email to viti.fhc@gmail.com two weeks ahead of travel date together with an itinerary, passport biodata and copy of NZ visa. The applicant must ensure that their passports are renewed in Fiji as this option is only valid for one way travel into Fiji. The applicant must also ensure that the relevant NZ visa is transferred under the new Passport number if they are to return to NZ without issue. Applicants take an undertaking to pay 113fjd at Fiji Immigration at the Nadi International airport for the facilitation letter. Issuance of a Facilitation letter takes approximately 3 working days to process.

Option 2 – Certificate of ID

CI application form should be completed as for new passport, with only two (2) passport sized photos and a letter stating the reason for CI application. CI takes approximately 3-5 working days to process. However, processing time can vary depending on individual cases.

Important Photo Requirements for Passport and Certificate of Identity

Applicants for Fiji Passports and Certificates of Identity are advised to note the strict requirements of the Fiji Department of Immigration for photographs.

Photographs must meet the following criteria (please download sample photographs):

  • Neck and shoulders must be visible
  • Photograph must be clear and without additional marks
  • Spectacles and sunglasses must not be worn
  • Hats and other head-gear must not be worn
  • Head coverings are permitted for religious purposes only, with ears and forehead clearly visible
  • Infants & Children must be photographed alone and without an object close to the face
  • Photograph must have a plain, light coloured background with face centralised
  • Photographs must not be over or under exposed and without red eyes and flash reflection.
  • Photographs must not have a shadow in background or on face
  • Straight pose with eyes focused directly at camera
  • Ears and forehead must be clearly visible
  • No bare shoulders, thin strapped garments are acceptable.
  • Applications for Passports and Certificates of Identity must submit passport photos which comply with the above strict requirements.
  • Applications with Non-compliant photographs will not be processed.
