FFIA’s Engagement in the ALDFG/EoL Fishing Gear Project

In 2024, the Association participated in a survey involving ALDFG involving the supply chain for Bumble Bee, whereby we shared our experience. At the same time, there are initial discussions with the World Bank and WWF Pacific on the same.

Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) Certification

The Fiji tuna fishery was the first in the world to be certified under the MSC banner for the fishery in 2012. We are now in our 3 certification and thank the Ministry of Fisheries and WWF Pacific for being partners for the certification.

Conservation International (CI) partnered with FFIA

FFIA’s partnership with CI has been instrumental in promoting sustainable and socially responsible practices in Fiji’s fishing industry. Through a formal Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), FFIA and CI have collaborated on several key initiatives in the areas of Economic, Environment, and Social issues pertaining to the sector.

World Wide Fund (WWF)

The Fiji fishing industry has had a long relationship with WWF through assistance in MSC-related matters, the training of our crews in by-catch mitigation, and the provision of by-catch mitigation tools, the funding of fishers on Deckhand Courses at the PCSM, to name a few
